Theragen BIO said it has launched the
upgraded version of its “Genestyle” series of direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic
test kits, increasing the number of check items from 55 to 70.
Among the newly added item are nutrients, including vitamin A, selenium and lutein, as well as bone mass, abdominal obesity and exercises’ weight-reducing effects, which had not been allowed previously. The company expects the upgraded version will provide more genetic information and various solutions to consumers.
The newly launched “Genestyle” series
comprises five services – Genestyle Wellness 70, Genestyle Health Nutrition 38,
Genestyle Beauty Fitness 31, Genestyle Diet 28 and Genestyle Me, priced at
between 150,000 won and 400,000 won ($138-$369) each.
Theragen Bio is the only company that has
won certifications for the largest number of test items in two consecutive
pilot projects conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency,
the company said, adding that it provides the largest number of check services.
DTC genetic testing is available online or
at stores for consumers without visiting a medical clinic. The government had
limited the total number of DTC genetic testing items to 11. Since last year,
however, it began to allow companies to expand testing items after evaluating
the accuracy, safety and consumer satisfaction through government-led
demonstration projects
